The Project Mentor
- Purpose of the Project Mentor. The project mentor provides the participant with seasoned and insightful input. Participants are required to select a committee member who will serve as a mentor in their field of ministry as well as an outside reader of the dissertation. This should be completed before the integrative essay is completed. Participants will not be allowed to participate in the integrative essay process without a field mentor. One of the goals of the field‑mentor relationship is an opportunity for students to build collegial relationships along their line of academic and professional interest.
- Selecting a Project Mentor. Define the topic of your study. Determine who may best help you with the content of the study. Recommend Project Mentor to D.Min. Director. While the project‑mentor need not have doctoral level credentials, that person must represent significant expertise in the doctoral candidate’s area of research and study.
Exit Procedures
• Professional Ministry Project. The professional ministry project is a demonstration or test of a theory you have about the improvement of ministry. Therefore, one must conduct a process (project/experiment) that includes observation, interpretation and evaluation. The project is presented first as a proposal (See D.Min. Handbook). After your proposal approval, you may implement your project. At least one year must be dedicated to the ministry project according to ATS standards.
• The Professional Ministry Project Report. The D.Min. Professional Ministry Project Report is the final report about the ministry project and the associated evaluation process. It should demonstrate clear relationships between an application of theory to practice in a methodical way.
• Exit Report. An Exit Report form must be completed as the final step in completing the D.Min. program. All accounts-tuition, library/publishing and graduation fees‑-must be cleared as well.
